This is probably the biggest police recruitment in the entire country. If you have passed 12th class or graduation, this is your chance to wear the police uniform. The vacancies include Constable, Sub-Inspector, Home Guard, and many other posts. The official notification is expected in May 2026 . Keep your documents ready. Do not wait for the last moment.

Maharashtra Tribal Watchman Recruitment 2026 – 303 Group-D Posts, Apply

Application Fee

The fee is different for different categories. This is based on previous UP Police recruitments .

  • General / OBC / EWS – ₹500
  • SC / ST – ₹400
  • Female candidates (all categories) – ₹400

Payment mode: Online only. You can use UPI, debit card, credit card, or net banking. Some recruitments also allow SBI e-challan, but online is the safest.

Honest opinion: ₹500 is not a big amount. Think about the job you will get. A government job with pension, medical, and respect. This small fee is nothing compared to that.

Age Limit (as on 01 July 2026)

Your age is counted from 1 July 2026. This is the standard date UP Police uses .

For Constable Posts

  • Minimum age – 18 years
  • Maximum age for male candidates – 25 years
  • Maximum age for female candidates – 28 years

For Sub-Inspector Posts

  • Minimum age – 21 years
  • Maximum age – 28 years

Age Relaxation (extra years for reserved categories)

  • SC / ST (UP residents) – 5 years extra
  • OBC (UP residents) – 3 years extra
  • Ex-servicemen – 3 years extra (after subtracting service period)

Note: If you are a General male candidate and you are 26 years old on 1 July 2026, you cannot apply for Constable. But you can apply for Home Guard posts which have higher age limits. Check your age carefully.

Educational Qualification

This is different for different posts. I will explain in simple words.

For Constable Posts

  • You must have passed 12th class (Intermediate) from any recognized board .
  • No percentage requirement. Just pass is enough.

For Sub-Inspector Posts

  • You must have a Bachelor’s degree (Graduation) in any subject from a recognized university .

For Home Guard Posts

  • You must have passed 10th class from any recognized board .

Personal note: If you have studied more than the minimum requirement, that is good. But it does not give you extra marks in the exam. Everyone gets the same paper. So do not worry if you are just 12th pass.

Important Points (Read Before You Apply)

I have seen many people lose job opportunities because they ignored small things. Please read these 10 points carefully.

  1. This is a UP government job. You must be a resident of Uttar Pradesh. You need a UP domicile certificate. People from Bihar, MP, or other states cannot apply.
  2. Physical fitness is very important. Even if you score 100% in the written exam, you will be rejected if you fail the physical test. Start running today.
  3. The competition is huge. For 30,000 Constable posts last year, over 40 lakh candidates applied . This time it is 1 lakh posts, but applicants may cross 50 lakh. So prepare hard.
  4. Do not fake your documents. The police verification is very strict. If you fake your age or caste certificate, you can go to jail.
  5. Keep your original certificates safe. At the time of document verification, you need to show originals. Not photocopies. Not photos on phone.
  6. The exam is offline (OMR based). You will fill bubbles with a black pen. Practice this at home.
  7. Negative marking is there. For every wrong answer, 0.25 or 0.50 marks are deducted . Do not guess randomly.
  8. Female candidates get some relaxation. Age limit is higher. Running distance is shorter. Take advantage of this.
  9. Home Guard posts have lower physical standards. If you cannot meet the height or running requirements for Constable, try for Home Guard.
  10. The official notification will have all exact details. Do not believe WhatsApp forwards. Only trust uppbpb.gov.in.

Vacancy Details

The total number is 1 lakh vacancies. But the exact post-wise breakdown is not yet released .

Based on the Chief Minister’s announcement, the vacancies will be distributed like this :

Post NameExpected Vacancies
Constable (Civil Police, PAC, SSF)~80,000
Sub-Inspector (SI)~10,000
Home Guard~5,000
Technical Posts (Computer Operator, Radio Assistant, etc.)~5,000
Total~1,00,000

Category Wise Breakdown (Expected)

CategoryExpected PercentageExpected Vacancies
General (UR)40%40,000
OBC27%27,000
SC21%21,000
ST2%2,000
EWS10%10,000

Strategy tip: If you are from SC/ST/OBC, your cutoff will be lower. But do not be lazy. Many reserved category candidates still fail because they do not study. Prepare like a General candidate.

Salary Details

Let’s talk about money. This is a government job, so the salary is not just the number. It is the perks.

Constable Salary

  • Pay Scale – ₹21,700 to ₹69,100 per month (Pay Level-3)

Sub-Inspector Salary

  • Pay Scale – ₹35,400 to ₹1,12,400 per month (Pay Level-6)

Monthly In-Hand Salary (Approximate for Constable)

ComponentAmount
Basic Pay₹21,700
Dearness Allowance (DA)~₹9,000
House Rent Allowance (HRA)~₹2,500 – ₹5,000
Other Allowances~₹2,000 – ₹3,000
Total In-Hand (Starting)₹35,000 – ₹38,000

Additional Benefits

  • Pension – New Pension Scheme (NPS). Government contributes 14% of your basic.
  • Medical – Free treatment for you and your family in government hospitals.
  • Ration allowance – Extra money for food.
  • Uniform allowance – Free uniform every year.
  • Promotion – After 5-10 years, you can become Head Constable, then SI, then Inspector.
  • Job security – No one can remove you without a proper reason.

My feeling: ₹35,000 per month is a good salary for a young person. But the real value is in the pension and medical. Your parents will be taken care of. Your children will get education benefits. Think long term.

Selection Process

This is not just one exam. You have to pass multiple stages. Here is the full path.

  • Step 1: Written Examination
    • This is the first filter. You need to score high marks to move forward. The exam is offline (OMR sheet).
  • Step 2: Physical Standard Test (PST)
    • They will check your height, chest (for males), and weight (for females).
    • This is qualifying. No marks. Just pass or fail.
  • Step 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
    • You have to run a certain distance in a certain time.
    • For male Constable candidates: 4.8 km in 25 minutes .
    • For female Constable candidates: 2.4 km in 14 minutes .
  • Step 4: Document Verification (DV)
    • You bring all your original certificates. 12th marksheet, domicile, caste certificate, etc.
    • If any document is fake, you can be arrested.
  • Step 5: Medical Examination
    • A government doctor checks your eyesight, hearing, blood pressure, and overall health.
    • Minor issues like weak eyesight can be fixed with glasses. Major issues will disqualify you.

Note: The physical tests are not easy. Every year, thousands of candidates fail the running test. Do not ignore your fitness.

Job Profile (What Will You Actually Do?)

Many young people dream of becoming a police officer. But do you know what the job actually is? Let me explain.

Constable (Civil Police)

  • You will be posted at a police station (thana).
  • You will go on patrol (night duty).
  • You will control traffic during festivals.
  • You will help people who come to the police station.
  • During elections, you will be on duty for 15-20 days continuously.
  • You will work in shifts – morning, evening, night.

Constable (PAC / Armed Police)

  • You will live in a barracks with other constables.
  • You will carry rifles and other weapons.
  • You will be called during riots, protests, or natural disasters.
  • You will do parade and drill every morning.
  • Life is more disciplined than civil police.

Sub-Inspector (SI)

  • You will be in charge of a police outpost.
  • You will investigate crimes (theft, murder, accidents).
  • You will file charge sheets in court.
  • You will give orders to constables.
  • More responsibility. More respect. More pressure.

Honest truth: This is not a 9-to-5 job. You will work on Sundays. You will work on Diwali. You will work when others are sleeping. But you will also get respect that no private job can give. When you wear that uniform, people will listen to you.

Exam Pattern (For Constable Posts)

The written exam is the most important stage. Here is how it looks.

  • Mode: Offline (OMR based – you fill bubbles with black pen)
  • Total Questions: 150
  • Total Marks: 300 (2 marks per question)
  • Time Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
  • Negative Marking: Yes, 0.25 marks deducted for each wrong answer

Subject Wise Breakdown

SubjectQuestionsMarks
General Knowledge & Current Affairs4080
General Hindi4080
Numerical & Mental Ability (Maths)3570
Mental Aptitude & Reasoning (IQ)3570
Total150300

Passing Marks

  • General / OBC / EWS – 45% (135 marks out of 300)
  • SC / ST – 40% (120 marks out of 300)

My advice: The math and reasoning sections take the most time. Practice those first. General Knowledge is mostly current affairs of the last 6 months.

Preparation Tips (VERY IMPORTANT)

I am telling you from my experience. Many candidates fail not because they are stupid, but because they do not prepare properly. Do these 4 things.

1. Start running today
Do not wait for the exam date. Even if you are a genius, you will fail if you cannot run 4.8 km in 25 minutes. Wake up at 5 AM. Run 3 km daily. Increase slowly. Time yourself every Sunday.

2. Buy one good book
Do not buy 10 books. Buy one good book for UP Police Constable exam (Lucent or Arihant). Finish it completely. Then solve previous year papers.

3. Read newspaper daily (Hindi)
60% of the General Knowledge questions come from current affairs. Read Dainik Jagran or Amar Ujala every day. Focus on UP news – who is the CM, Governor, ministers, new schemes.

4. Practice mock tests on your phone
There are many free apps. Download 2-3. Give one mock test every day. After 15 days, you will see your speed and accuracy improve.

Emotional advice: Do not compare yourself with others. Some people will say they study 10 hours a day. Some will say they have solved 50 books. Ignore them. Focus on your own preparation. 2 hours of smart study is better than 10 hours of lazy study.

How to Apply (Step by Step)

Follow these steps exactly. Do not skip anything.

  1. Open your phone or computer. Go to Google. Search for “UPPRPB official website”. Or type this address – uppbpb.gov.in
  2. On the homepage, look for a link that says “UP Police Recruitment 2026” or “Apply Online”. Click on it.
  3. First, do One Time Registration (OTR). This is mandatory. Enter your mobile number, email, Aadhaar, name, father’s name, date of birth.
  4. You will get an OTP on your phone. Enter that OTP. Your registration is complete. Note down your registration number and password.
  5. Now log in with your registration number and password.
  6. Fill the application form. Enter your address (permanent and current). Select your category (General / OBC / SC / ST / EWS). Enter your educational details.
  7. Select your post preferences. If you want Constable, select that. If you also want Home Guard, select that too.
  8. Upload your photo – passport size, white background, file size less than 50 KB.
  9. Upload your signature – white paper, black pen, file size less than 50 KB.
  10. Upload your 12th marksheet, domicile certificate, and caste certificate (if applicable).
  11. Review everything. Double check your name spelling. Double check your date of birth. Double check your mobile number.
